According to an important study published in 2007 by Professor Shigeo Ohta's team in Japan, hydrogen can selectively scavenge the most harmful free radicals in the human body, helping to fight oxidation, delay aging, and combat inflammation. This has since been confirmed by many other studies.

During metabolism, the human body produces free radicals, especially harmful ones. Stress, air pollution, smoking, ultraviolet rays, and poor diet can all increase harmful free radicals. As we age, our antioxidant system declines, and harmful free radicals intensify. Harmful free radicals attack cells, damaging cell membranes, proteins, and even DNA.

The unique characteristic of hydrogen is that hydrogen atoms are weakly charged atoms and only bind with harmful free radicals, without affecting beneficial free radicals in the body. Hence it is known as "selective antioxidant." Moreover, hydrogen molecules are extremely small, allowing them to penetrate cell membranes and enter mitochondria, directly eliminating free radicals at their source of production.

Hydrogen is one of the few substances that can penetrate the blood-brain barrier. The blood-brain barrier is a natural gateway that protects the brain, and many drugs and antioxidants cannot cross it. However, tiny hydrogen molecules can, allowing them to reach the brain directly and protect precious brain health.

Research has found that hydrogen can regulate the body's methylation repair. Methylation is like a cap on DNA that can suppress unstable gene expression. Hydrogen helps maintain genetic stability through this epigenetic mechanism.
